CACTACEAE IRT

Introduction

The information presented in this website, concerning the tribe Cacteae (family Cactaceae) covers the Genera Pediocactus, Sclerocactus, Navajoa, and Toumeya, is based on a clear taxonomic classification of currently-recognised, valid species from their most up-to-date literary treatment by Fritz Hochstätter, IOS, international research team (IRT), with due regard to their nomenclatural history, based on the IRT's studies over the last 25 years of plants in the wild and in cultivation. All species are frost hardy and some are useful for outdoor cultivation in lower temperature zones. Their detailed knowledge of individual habitat populations justifies the categorisation in the checklist of endangered species below.

Sclerocactus
3 sections, 10 species, 4 subspecies, 1 subvariety and 3 formae are recognised.
